Avon's Maggie Hoffman fired a no-hitter as the Panthers defeated Southeastern (7-0) in game 2 of a Mayflower League battle.


Alicia Briggs (WP, 4-hitter, 1-3, 2 RBI's) was the catalyst in leading Haverhill to a (3-2) Merrimack Valley Conference win over Lawrence.

MIAA accepts Mansfield offer to settle football issues

MIAA ACCEPTS MANSFIELD HIGH SCHOOL OFFER

TO SETTLE FOOTBALL ISSUE

Franklin, MA, May 7, 2009 - - The appeal by Mansfield High School before the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Council (MIAC) scheduled for today has been postponed after the two parties reached a tentative agreement.

The Mansfield School Department approached the MIAA with an offer of a four game disqualification of its football coach and to reimburse the Association $9,700 in legal fees.

Mansfield H.S. was appealing a decision by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association’s (MIAA) Board of Directors to suspend Football Coach Michael Redding for five games as a result of his failure to report in a timely manner the use of an ineligible player last season. The school was also appealing the MIAA decision to assess them legal fees incurred in the matter.

The Association has accepted this offer as being a reasonable way to conclude this unfortunate situation. Conditioned upon the parties finalization of a written agreement, the MIAA’s The Board of Directors will take final action on this offer at its June 4th meeting.

Duxbury's Laura Walter (4-hitter, 14 K's) pitched the Dragons to a (17-0) Patriot League whitewashing of Hingham.

MIAA-MANSFIELD HIGH SCHOOL REACH TENTATIVE AGREEMENT

APPEAL HEARING POSTPONED

Attorneys reached an agreement that must be reduced to writing, reviewed by the MIAA Board and ratified before it is official. The Board will take up the agreement at its June 4th meeting. Terms of the agreement are not being released until it is finalized.

EMASS Softball Players of the Day for May 4th


Players of the Day for Monday, May 4, 2009.



Kiki Saveriano (above left) was immense in the circle and at the plate (shutout, 1-hitter, 15 K's, 2-3, single, HR) as she propelled Lexington to a (8-0) whitewashing of Middlesex League foe Wakefield.


Ashland's Nicole D'Argento was almost perfect (5 IP, 14 out of 15 outs were K's) as the Clockers stomped on Westwood in Tri-Valley League action (17-2).


Meredith Kelly hit for the cycle and had 8 RBI's to lead Cohasset to a (21-1) pasting of South Shore League opponent, Mashpee.


Norwood's Ali Maloof tossed a one-hit, ten strikeout shutout while teammate Lauren Duggan (3-5, 5 RBI's) supplied the pop as the Mustangs bested Natick (11-0) in Bay State League action.


Kelli Jo Deardorff (7 Ip, 4-hitter, 13 K's) shined in the circle as Shawsheen snuck by Greater Lowell in Commonwealth League action.


Concord-Carlisle's Emily Beinecke and Georgia Guttadauro (9-10, 7 runs, 6 RBI's) were all the Patriots needed offensively as they pounded Dual County League foe Wayland (15-0).


Diana Bean (shutout, one-hitter, 6 K's, 4-4, RBI) lead Danvers to a (5-0) shutout of fellow Northeastern Conference member Beverly.


Duxbury's Casey Ducinski (CG, 12 K's) was the impetus behind the Dragons (3-1) win over Pembroke in a Patriot League tilt.


Nicole Eisenmann (shutout, one-hitter, 10 K's, 2 hits, 2 RBI's) did it all as East Bridgewater took care of business in the South Shore League by defeating Carver (3-0).


Millis' Hillary McBride (5-5, 5 runs scored, RBI) powered the Mohawks to a (20-11) demolition of Tri-Valley League for Norton.

Taylor Robinson (pictured above) supplied the punch (4 hits, 3 runs, 5 RBI's) as Haverhill smothered Merrimack Valley League foe Billerica (17-0).


Braintree's Joe Donovan had 5 hits to lead the Wamps to a (8-3) victory over Bay State League opponent Needham.


Bryan Sweeney (4-4, 2 RBI's) was the catalyst in Dennis-Yarmouth's (7-4) upset of Atlantic Coast Conference leader Plymouth North.


Bishop Fenwick's Tommy Moules pitched a 5-hit, 12 strikeout gem to lead the Crusaders to a Catholic Central win over Archbishop Williams (3-0).


Dionys Quezada (3-1-2-6) propelled Lawrence to a thrashing of Whittier (15-0) in a non-league mismatch.


Lincoln-Sudbury's Derek Lowe (6 IP, shutout, 8 K's) pitched a masterpiece as the Warriors bested Boston Latin (6-0) in Dual County League action.


Pat Urban (6 IP, 11 K's) was immense on the hill as Malden belted Somerville (13-1) in a Greater Boston League tilt.


Belmont sophomore Matt Brown (4-4, 2 doubles, 5 RBI's) was the offensive force behind the Marauders (12-8) Middlesex League win over Woburn.


Dave Gibson (win, 10 K's, 3-4, 2 RBI's) supplied the arm and bat to lead Hanover to a (7-2) Patriot League win over Whitman-Hanson.


Hull's Robert Hill (6 1/3, 14 K's) was unhittable as the Pirates slipped by South Shore League opponent, Norwell (5-2).


Ty Breton fired a 3-hit, 10 strikeout pearl as Greater New Bedford slipped by South Coast Conference foe Apponequet (4-2).
