MIAA accepts Mansfield offer to settle football issues

MIAA ACCEPTS MANSFIELD HIGH SCHOOL OFFER
TO SETTLE FOOTBALL ISSUE
Franklin, MA, May 7, 2009 - - The appeal by Mansfield High School before the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Council (MIAC) scheduled for today has been postponed after the two parties reached a tentative agreement.
The Mansfield School Department approached the MIAA with an offer of a four game disqualification of its football coach and to reimburse the Association $9,700 in legal fees.
Mansfield H.S. was appealing a decision by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association’s (MIAA) Board of Directors to suspend Football Coach Michael Redding for five games as a result of his failure to report in a timely manner the use of an ineligible player last season. The school was also appealing the MIAA decision to assess them legal fees incurred in the matter.
The Association has accepted this offer as being a reasonable way to conclude this unfortunate situation. Conditioned upon the parties finalization of a written agreement, the MIAA’s The Board of Directors will take final action on this offer at its June 4th meeting.

MIAA--Mansfield reach tentative agreement
APPEAL HEARING POSTPONED

Mansfield H.S. was appealing a decision by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association’s (MIAA) Board of Directors to suspend Football Coach Michael Redding for five games as a result of his failure to report in a timely manner the use of an ineligible player last season. The school was also appealing the MIAA decision to assess them legal fees incurred in the matter.
Attorneys reached an agreement that must be reduced to writing, reviewed by the MIAA Board and ratified before it is official. The Board will take up the agreement at its June 4th meeting. Terms of the agreement are not being released until it is finalized.

EMASS Softball Players of the Day for May 4th
Players of the Day for Monday, May 4, 2009.
Kiki Saveriano (above left) was immense in the circle and at the plate (shutout, 1-hitter, 15 K's, 2-3, single, HR) as she propelled Lexington to a (8-0) whitewashing of Middlesex League foe Wakefield.
Ashland's Nicole D'Argento was almost perfect (5 IP, 14 out of 15 outs were K's) as the Clockers stomped on Westwood in Tri-Valley League action (17-2).
Meredith Kelly hit for the cycle and had 8 RBI's to lead Cohasset to a (21-1) pasting of South Shore League opponent, Mashpee.
Norwood's Ali Maloof tossed a one-hit, ten strikeout shutout while teammate Lauren Duggan (3-5, 5 RBI's) supplied the pop as the Mustangs bested Natick (11-0) in Bay State League action.
Kelli Jo Deardorff (7 Ip, 4-hitter, 13 K's) shined in the circle as Shawsheen snuck by Greater Lowell in Commonwealth League action.
Concord-Carlisle's Emily Beinecke and Georgia Guttadauro (9-10, 7 runs, 6 RBI's) were all the Patriots needed offensively as they pounded Dual County League foe Wayland (15-0).
Diana Bean (shutout, one-hitter, 6 K's, 4-4, RBI) lead Danvers to a (5-0) shutout of fellow Northeastern Conference member Beverly.
Duxbury's Casey Ducinski (CG, 12 K's) was the impetus behind the Dragons (3-1) win over Pembroke in a Patriot League tilt.
Nicole Eisenmann (shutout, one-hitter, 10 K's, 2 hits, 2 RBI's) did it all as East Bridgewater took care of business in the South Shore League by defeating Carver (3-0).

Dionys Quezada (3-1-2-6) propelled Lawrence to a thrashing of Whittier (15-0) in a non-league mismatch.
