EMASS Football-EmassSports.com Top 20-9/15/09

This is a combined TOP 20 poll using information gathered from the Boston Herald, Maxpreps.com, calpreps.com, hssinsight.com and highschoolsports.net. The goal is to provide the ultimate combined Top 20 in EMass sports.

Without further ado here is the TOP 20 and this week's opponents.

#1-(1.4)-XAVERIAN (1-0) @ Waltham (0-1), 7:00pm (Saturday)

Last week's rank (1). Xaverian came storming out of the gate with a (47-14) decision over Malden Catholic that punctuated their #1 ranking. This week is the 2nd of their 3 game road trip to start the season. Waltham played Chelmsford tough last week so the Hawks better not be looking ahead to their tilt against Brockton next week.

#2-(2.55)-EVERETT (1-0) @ #5 Dracut (1-0), 6:00pm (Saturday)

Last week's rank (2). The Crimson Tide disposed of CMass Leominster (14-6) last week. This week its an away game against the #5 Dracut Middies. Everett took care of them pretty handily last year, this year should be a closer battle.

#3-(2.90)-BROCKTON (1-0) vs Taunton (0-1), 6:00pm (Friday)

Last week's rank (3). The Boxers made a very loud statement in their win over BC High. The only thing that could affect the outcome of this week's game against the Tigers is if Brockton falls prey to the "trap game" as #1 Xaverian is on deck.

#4-(6.05)-MANSFIELD (1-0) vs Minnechaug (1-0), 7:00pm (Friday)

Last week's rank (7). A convincing (34-0) win over a Dartmouth lead by QB Nik Busharis. This week it is WMass Minnechaug who put up 44 points in last week's win. Minnechaug is the 2nd highest rated team in WMass but I'm thinking the Hornets will show them what the top echelon of EMASS football is all about.

#5-(6.95)-DRACUT (1-0) vs #2 Everett (1-0), 6:00pm (Saturday)

Last week's rank (11). A nice opening win over the Top 20's Marshfield Rams (20-13). They are going to have to ramp it up another notch to extract revenge for last year's loss to the #2 Crimson Tide.

#6-(8.40)-READING (1-0) vs #12 Masconomet (1-0), 7:00pm (Thursday)

Last week's rank (10). The Rockets game charging out of the blocks with a resounding (35-0) shut out of Cambridge. The road gets a little tougher as they take on the Chieftains at home in one of the marquee games of the week.

#7-(9.50)-WALPOLE (1-0) @ Milton (1-0), 7:00pm (Thursday)

Last week's rank (12). The Rebels extended the EMass football longest winning streak (including playoffs) to 14 with a (20-6) win over Framingham. They are going to have to keep Ryan Izzo healthy to keep the streak alive against Milton who is coming off a (34-0) shut of Brookline and Irvin Scott.

#8-(10.45)-BC HIGH (0-1) vs Springfield Central (1-0), 1:30pm (Saturday)

Last weeks' rank (3). The Eagles are handed an early season loss by the Brockton Boxers (27-3). They will see if they can get their first "W" against WMass's Springfield Central before taking on Acton-Boxboro next week.

#9-(11.20)-CATHOLIC MEMORIAL (1-0) vs Haverhill (0-1), 7:00pm (Friday)

Last week's rank (8). CM traveled to Lynn Classical last week and shut out the Rams (17-0). This week it is time to take on an MVC opponent in the Haverhill Hillies. Should have no problem getting the win.

#10-(11.7)-BILLERICA (1-0) @ Woburn (0-1), 7:00pm (Friday)

Last week's rank (6). The Indians slip by Burlington (26-14) in a mistake filled game. They get their second Middlesex League team in as many week's in the Woburn Tanners who are coming off a tough loss to Acton-Boxboro.

#11-(12.00)-GLOUCESTER (1-0) vs Andover (1-0), 7:00pm (Thursday)

Last week's rank (8). The Fisherman put on a clinic in their (27-0) shutout of Swampscott. This week they are going to need their full stable of running backs as they have a very short week to prepare for Andover.

#12-(13.40)-MASCONOMET (1-0) @ #6 Reading (1-0), 7:00pm (Thursday)

Last week's rank (17). Masconomet is coming off a (35-14) dismantling of Lowell. This week the stakes are high in a classic non-league battle with the Reading Rockets.

#13-(13.60)-NATICK (1-0) @ Norwood (1-0), 7:00pm (Thursday)

Last week's rank (14). The Red and Blue explode with a (27-0) Bay State League win over Newton North. This week they take on a Norwood team that is looking to make an early season statement. The first of 4 straight road games for the Red And Blue.

#14-(13.75)-MARSHFIELD (0-1) vs Lincoln-Sudbury (0-1), 7:00pm (Saturday)

Last week's rank (5). The Rams fall in a nail biter to Dracut (20-13). This week a non-league battle with the Lincoln-Sudbury Warriors where neither team wants to end up (0-2).

#15-(16.10)-ST. JOHN'S PREP (1-0) @ Central Catholic (0-1), 7:00pm (Thursday)

Last week's rank (not ranked). The Eagles handled the Peabody Tanners with ease. Up this week the Central Catholic Raiders. Now the bad news..the next two weeks are against Everett and Brockton.

#16-(17.40)-BRIDGEWATER-RAYNHAM (1-0) @ Durfee (0-1), 7:00pm (Friday)

Last week's rank (not ranked). The Trojans raised some eyebrows with their (28-7) victory over perennial power Duxbury. They best not look past the Hilltoppers to their game next week against the Marshfield Rams.

#17-(19.4)-FRANKLIN (1-0) @ Milford (1-0), 7:00pm (Thursday)

Last week's rank (18). The Panthers with a lights out early season win over Attleboro. This week it is on to CMass power Milford who is coming off a (34-0) win over Bellingham. The Hockomock League games start next week and Franklin drew the short straw and gets to play Mansfield.

#18-(20.40)-BISHOP FEEHAN (1-0) @ North Attleboro (1-0), 7:00pm (Friday)

Last week's rank (20). The Shamrocks just slip by Foxboro (16-14) on a last second FG. This week they look to make it two in a row against the HOCK with a contest versus the always tough North Attleboro Red Rocketeers.

#19-(20.85)-CHELMSFORD (1-0) @ Acton-Boxboro (1-0), 7:00pm (Thursday)

Last week's rank (20). The Lions had a nice opening day win over Waltham. In doesn't get any easier this week with the always strong Acton-Boxboro Colonials from the Dual County League.

#20-(23.60)-KING PHILIP (1-0) vs Bellingham (0-1), 7:00pm (Friday)

Last week's rank (not ranked). The Warriors got off to a spectacular start with a (35-0) shut out of Hopkinton. Up next another Tri-Valley League member Bellingham. I have a feeling after this week that the TVL will avoid scheduling KP football in the future.

Dropping out were Manchester-Essex, Lincoln-Sudbury, Lowell and Duxbury.

For a look at the rest of the EMass football's Week 2 schedule it is available on Danny V's Boston Herald blog.
