EMASS Football-EmassSports.com Top 20-10/21/09

This is a combined TOP 20 poll using information gathered from the Boston Herald, Boston Globe, Maxpreps.com, hssinsight.com and highschoolsports.net for WEEK 6. The goal is to provide the ultimate combined Top 20 in EMass sports.

Here is the TOP 20, each team's opponent this week, whom they won and lost against year-to-date, opponents wins and losses, record versus teams that were in the Top 20 at the time they played them and next week's opponent.

NOTE: Only games played against EMass Top 20 teams are reflected in each team top 20 record. No WMass/CMass or out-of-state. Too hard to compare apples to apples. However, those team's records are reflected in opponents records.

#1-(1.80)-D1-XAVERIAN (6-0) vs #6 Bridgewater-Raynham (6-0), 2:30pm (Sunday)

Last week's rank (1). Xaverian (31.2 PF/G-7.8 PA/G) went down to the wire with then #9 Everett last week (19-13). This week the Hawks will need another big effort as they take on a Bridgewater-Raynham (27.0 PF/G-11.5 PA/G) team fresh off a victory over Rhode Island's best. It certainly doesn't get any easier next week for Xaverian as they have St. John's of Shrewsbury on deck.

Wins:
Malden Catholic, Waltham, Brockton, Somerville, Hudson Catholic (NJ), Everett
Losses:
none
Combined record of opponents:
(17-15)
TOP 20:
(2-0)
On Deck:
St. John's (Shrewsbury)

#2-(2.10)-D2-READING (6-0)
vs Belmont (4-2), 7:00pm (Friday)

Last week's rank (2). Reading (38.0 PF/G-5.8 PA/G) devoured Malden Catholic last week (42-14). This week it a home tilt against a Belmont (23.0 PF/G-18.7 PA/G) team that can be explosive offensively. Expect a close first half, then watch for the Rockets to pull away in the 2nd half. Burlington is next on the slate for Reading.

Wins:
Cambridge, Masconomet, Winchester, Melrose, Wakefield, Malden Catholic
Losses:
none
Combined record of opponents:
(12-24)
TOP 20:
(0-0)
On Deck:
Burlington

#3-(4.35)-D1-BROCKTON (5-1)
vs Durfee (1-5), 7:00pm (Friday)

Last week's rank (3). The Boxers (21.3 PF/G-12.8 PA/G) came from behind to beat Pinkerton Academy last week (28-14). This week a home league game against Durfee (11.2 PF/G-35.2 PA/G). This one will be over early. This is the first of a 2 game home stand as the Boxers face CMass Leominster next week.

Wins:
BC High, Taunton, St. John's Prep, Fitchburg, Pinkerton Academy (NH)
Losses:
Xaverian
Combined record of opponents:
(23-14)
TOP 20:
(1-1)
On Deck:
Leominster

#4-(4.90)-D1A-GLOUCESTER (6-0)
@ Peabody (2-4), 7:00pm (Friday)

Last week's rank (4). The Fisherman (32.8 PF/G-7.0 PA/G) had a monster first 25 minutes against Masconomet last week then hung on for (21-14) victory. This week they travel to Peabody (16.3 PF/G-25.7 PA/G) to take on the Tanners in a NEC-Large league game. This has trap game written all over it as the Fishermen face Lynn English next week. Beware!

Wins:
Swampscott, Andover, Winthrop, Beverly, Salem, Masconomet
Losses:
none
Combined record of opponents:
(20-15)
TOP 20:
(0-0)
On Deck:
Lynn English

#5-(6.20)-D2-NATICK (6-0)
vs Milton (2-4), 7:00pm (Friday)

Last week's rank (5). The Red and Blue (39.3 PF/G-5.8 PA/G) rolled over fellow Bay Stater Wellesley (49-14) last week. This week Milton (17.7 PF/G-20.3 PA/G) comes to town to try and stop this juggernaut. Not happening. I see an undefeated Natick team traveling to Needham next week to take on the Rockets.

Wins:
Newton North, Norwood, Brookline, Dedham, Braintree, Wellesley
Losses:
none
Combined record of opponents:
(9-27)
TOP 20:
(0-0)
On Deck:
Needham

#6-(8.15)-D1A-BRIDGEWATER-RAYNHAM (6-0)
@ #1 Xaverian (6-0), 2:30pm (Sunday)

Last week's rank (6). The Trojans (27.0 PF/G-11.5 PA/G) took care of Rhode Island best, LaSalle Academy (22-16). This week its on the road at EMass #1 Xaverian (31.2 PF/G-7.8 PA/G). This one has all the makings of an instant classic. Flip a coin as I see a tight contest going down to the wire. BR resumes Old Colony League play next week against Dartmouth.

Wins: Duxbury, Durfee, Marshfield, New Bedford, Attleboro, LaSalle Academy (RI)
Losses: none
Combined record of opponents: (19-16-1)
TOP 20: (2-0)
On Deck: Dartmouth

#7-(8.80)-D2-WALPOLE (6-0)
@ Dedham (0-6), 10:00am (Saturday)

Last week's rank (7). The Rebels (29.0 PF/G-6.8 PA/G) defeated Norwood (32-14) last week with Ryan Izzo sitting out most of the game. This week, except for his pursuit of the state scoring record, I wouldn't expect to see too much of him against Dedham (10.3 PF/G-32.0 PA/G). Consecutive win number 20 in a row will be had this week. Needham, then Natick, are only two weeks away so health is a must.

Wins: Framingham, Milton, Newton North, Wellesley, Brookline, Norwood
Losses: none
Combined record of opponents: (11-25)
TOP 20: (0-0)
On Deck: Braintree

#8-(8.85)-D2-FRANKLIN (6-0)
vs Taunton (4-2), 7:00pm (Friday)

Last week's rank (8). Well now, what next for the Panthers. They are traveling in uncharted waters after their sweep of the Big 3 in the Hock. The week won't be any easier as Franklin (26.0 PF/G-15.8 PA/G) hosts the stubborn Taunton Tigers (28.7 PF/G-17.2 PA/G) in a non-league tilt. The Panthers will have to keep their eyes on the prize in order to escape with a "w" this week. On the horizon, Stoughton.

Wins: Attleboro, Milford, Mansfield, Canton, Foxboro, North Attleboro
Losses: none
Combined record of opponents: (22-13)
TOP 20: (3-0)
On Deck: Stoughton

#9-(9.20)-D1-CENTRAL CATHOLIC (5-1)
vs Lawrence (2-4), 7:00pm (Friday)

Last week's rank (10). The Raiders (23.7 PF/G-13.2 PA/G) shut out Lowell last week (21-0). This week Lawrence (23.0 PF/G-30.0 PA/G) comes to town. The Lancers have already upset one MVC-Large (Chelmsford) so be prepared. Next up a big game with Chelmsford.

Wins: St. John's Prep, Dracut, Tewksbury, Haverhill, Lowell
Losses: Marlboro
Combined records of opponents: (15-21)
TOP 20: (2-0)
On Deck: Chelmsford

#10-(11.05)-D2-DRACUT (4-2)
vs Chelmsford (4-2), 7:00pm (Friday)

Last week's rank (13). Dracut (31.5 PF/G-19.0 PA/G) breezed to a (34-14) victory over Tewksbury last week. This week the Middies will get an ornery Chelmsford Lions (23.2 PF/G-18.3 PA/G) team coming off a loss to Andover. Expect this to be a battle to the end. On deck for Dracut will be the hard charging Andover Golden Warriors.

Wins: Marshfield, Everett, Lowell, Tewksbury
Losses: Central Catholic, Billerica
Combined record of opponents: (20-15)
TOP 20: (2-1)
On Deck: Andover

#11-(11.35)-D1-EVERETT (3-2)
vs BYE WEEK

Last week's rank (9). A game effort last week in their loss to #1 Xaverian (19-13). The Tide
(14.4 PF/G-18.6 PA/G) gets a week to recover (didn't they just have a bye?) before heading in to the GBL part of their schedule. First up will be the Medford Mustangs.

Wins: Leominster, St. John's Prep, BC High
Losses: Dracut, Xaverian
Combined record of opponents: (18-12)
TOP 20:
(0-2)
On Deck: Medford

#12-(11.80)-D1-BILLERICA (5-1)
@ Haverhill (0-6), 7:00pm (Friday)

Last week's rank (14). The Indians (23.8 PF/G-17.0 PA/G) rebounded nicely with a win over Lawrence (35-20). This week they will keep their record unblemished when Nick LaSpada plays when they travel to play the Haverhill (9.5 PF/G-33.2 PA/G) Hillies. Next on their schedule, the Lowell Red Raiders.

Wins:
Burlington, Woburn, Methuen, Dracut, Lawrence
Losses:
Tewksbury
Combined record of opponents:
(18-17)
TOP 20:
(1-0)
On Deck:
Lowell

#13-(13.50)-D1-ANDOVER (5-1)
vs Methuen (4-2), 7:00pm (Friday)

Last week's rank (NR). The Golden Warriors (30.8 PF/G-20.3 PA/G) got the best of fellow MVC Large Chelmsford (28-21). This week they host Methuen
(21.0 PF/G-13.7 PA/G). Be wary of the Rangers as they have played everyone tough so far this year. Next on the slate is a date with the Dracut Middies.

Wins: North Andover, Tewksbury, Haverhill, Lawrence, Chelmsford
Losses: Gloucester
Combined record of opponents: (19-17)
TOP 20: (1-1)
On Deck: Dracut

#14-(13.75)-D2-MANSFIELD (5-1)
vs Canton (3-2), 7:30pm (Friday)

Last week's rank (12). Mansfield (36.7 PF/G-10.2 PA/G) shut down Oliver Ames last week (35-0). This week they entertain a Canton (18.2 PF/G-18.8 PA/G) that will try and play ball control behind Jordan Guyton. Won't matter as the quick strike Hornets will prevail. Next up is the King Philip Warriors.

Wins: Dartmouth, Minnechaug, Stoughton, Sharon, Oliver Ames
Losses: Franklin
Combined record of opponents: (11-25)
TOP 20: (0-1)
On Deck: King Philip

#15-(16.60)-D2A-FALMOUTH (6-0)
vs Plymouth North (5-1), 7:00pm (Friday)

Last week's rank (19). The Clippers (29.0 PF/G-12.8 PA/G) defeated Nauset (41-12) last week. This week in a huge ACL battle they host Plymouth North (23.8 PF/G-7.8 PA/G). Always a concern when a team's post season hopes are on the line so beware of the Eagles. They will be ready to play. Next up, another big game with Marshfield.

Wins: Rockland, Somerville, Dartmouth, BC High, Sandwich, Nauset
Losses: none
Combined record of opponents: (11-23)
TOP 20: (1-0)
On Deck: Marshfield

#16-(11.05)-D1-CATHOLIC MEMORIAL (4-1)
vs Malden Catholic (2-4, 7:00pm (Friday)

Last week's rank (11). CM (26.8 PF/G-20.6 PA/G) ran it to a buzzsaw in NH's #1 Bishop Guertin and paid the price with a (52-13) loss. This week a little home cooking will right the ship as the Knights take on Malden Catholic (18.5 PF/G-32.2 PA/G). Catholic Conference opponent, St. John's Prep is next.

Wins: Lynn Classical, Haverhill, Hartford (VT), Longmeadow
Losses: Bishop Guertin (NH)
Combined record of opponents: (16-15)
TOP 20: (0-0)
On Deck: St. John's Prep

#17-(16.60)-D2A-MARSHFIELD (4-2)
@ Plymouth South (4-1), 7:00pm (Friday)

Last week's rank (NR). The Rams (20.0 PF/G-13.5 PA/G) shut out then #16 Plymouth North (13-0). This week its back to the Rock to take on Plymouth South (21.4 PF/G-13.4 PA/G). Don't expect the Panthers to be too hospitable coming off their first loss of the season. Expect a very close game with the visitors coming away with a win. Next up is the undefeated Clippers of Falmouth.

Wins: Lincoln-Sudbury, Dennis-Yarmouth, Nauset, Plymouth North
Losses: Dracut, Bridgewater-Raynham
Combined record of opponents: (22-13)
TOP 20: (1-2)
On Deck: Falmouth

#18-(20.00)-D3-BISHOP FEEHAN (4-1)
@ Bishop Stang (1-4), 7:00pm (Friday)

Last week's rank (17). The Shamrocks (19.6 PF/G-11.6 PA/G) took care of Coyle-Cassidy (19-6) last week. This week another EAC opponent, Bishop Stang (8.4 PF/G-21.4 PA/G), and likewise another EAC win. Next up a non-league game against Attleboro.

Wins: Foxboro, Barrington (RI), Martha's Vineyard, Coyle-Cassidy
Losses: North Attleboro
Combined record of opponents: (18-12)
TOP 20: (0-0)
On Deck: Attleboro

#19-(20.40)-D2A-MASCONOMET (4-2)
vs Triton (5-1), 7:00pm (Friday)

Last week's rank (NR). Tough loss last week for the Chieftains
(21.3 PF/G-16.0 PA/G) as they fought back but ultimately succumbed to Gloucester (21-14). This week they host Triton (32.3 PF/G-10.8 PA/G) who is coming off their first loss of the season. Neither team can afford a CAL loss. I expect the tougher non-league schedule to help Masco prevail with a win. On deck, Wilmington.

Wins: Lowell, Lincoln-Sudbury, Westford Academy, Newburyport
Losses: Reading, Gloucester
Combined record of opponents: (21-15)
TOP 20: (1-2)

On Deck: Wilmington

#20-(22.15)-D1A-NEEDHAM (6-0)
vs Weymouth (5-1), 7:00pm (Friday)

Last weeks' rank (NR). The Rockets
(25.0 PF/G-10.0 PA/G) jump in to the Top 20 off their (35-20) win over Brookline. This week they host a Weymouth (32.0 PF/G-15.0 PA/G) team that has been flying under the radar. The winner of this game will more than likely be the Bay State-Carey representative in the playoffs. Too close to call. Next up, Natick.

Wins: Dedham, Braintree, Milton, Newton North, Norwood, Brookline
Losses:
Combined record of opponents: (7-29)
TOP 20: (0-0)

On Deck: Natick

Dropping out was King Philip, Plymouth North, North Attleboro and Chelmsford.
