EMASS Football-EmassSports.com Top 20-9/30/09-WEEK 3

This is a combined TOP 20 poll using information gathered from the Boston Herald, Boston Globe, Maxpreps.com, calpreps.com, hssinsight.com and highschoolsports.net for WEEK 3. The goal is to provide the ultimate combined Top 20 in EMass sports.

Here is the TOP 20, each team's opponent this week, whom they won and lost against year-to-date, opponents wins and losses and record versus teams that were in the Top 20 at the time they played them.

NOTE: Only games played against EMass Top 20 teams are reflected in each team top 20 record. No WMass/CMass or out-of-state. Too hard to compare apples to apples. However, those team's records are reflected in opponents records.

#1-(1.33)-XAVERIAN (3-0) vs Somerville (1-2), 1:30pm (Saturday)

Last week's rank (1). Xaverian (32.6 PF/G-9.0 PA/G) plays its first home game of the year against Somerville (11.6 PF/G-17.0 PA/G) after a stellar (3-0) road start including last week's (14-7) battle versus the Brockton Boxers. Expect Xaverian to head to Hudson Catholic (NJ) next week with an unblemished record.

Wins: Malden Catholic, Waltham, Brockton.
Losses: none
Combined record of opponents: (3-5)
TOP 20: (1-0)

#2-(3.08)-READING (3-0) @ Melrose (0-3), 7:00pm (Friday)

Last week's rank (3). Reading (34.6 PF/G-2.6 PA/G) gave up their first points of the year in last week's (34-7) win over Winchester. Things don't bode well for Melrose (10.3 PF/G-24.3 PA/G) this week. The Rockets start a run of 3 home games in a row next week.

Wins: Cambridge, Masconomet, Winchester
Losses: none
Combined record of opponents: (3-6)
TOP 20: (0-0)

#3-(6.79)-BROCKTON (2-1)
@ St. John's Prep (1-2), **3:00pm (Sunday)** (time/day change)

Last week's rank (5). The Boxers (18.6 PF/G-12.3 PA/G) came oh-so close to upsetting #1 Xaverian last week (14-7). This week doesn't get a heck of a lot easier against a Prep team (17.6 PF/G-13.0 PA/G) that has played a difficult early season schedule. Game on in this road battle for the Boxers.

Wins: BC High, Taunton
Losses: Xaverian
Combined record of opponents: (6-3)
TOP 20: (1-1)

#4-(6.95)-GLOUCESTER (3-0) @ Beverly (2-0), **2:00pm**(time change) (Saturday)

Last week's rank (7). The Fisherman (34.0 PF/G-9.3 PA/G) kept rolling with a (35-7) win over Winthrop last week. This week they take on the undefeated Beverly Panthers (24.5 PF/G-13.0 PA/G) who are coming off a big upset of #18 Lynn English. One of the bigger games on the North Shore this week.

TOP 20: (0-0)

#5 (tie)-(8.33)-NATICK (3-0)
@ Dedham (0-3), 10:00am (Saturday)

Last week's rank (6). The Red and Blue (36.6 PF/G-4.6 PA/G) rolled over fellow Bay Stater Brookline this week. Expect more of the same this week against a Dedham (11.6 PF/G-27.0 PA/G) team searching for their first "W".

Wins: Newton North, Norwood, Brookline
Losses: none
Combined record of opponents: (2-7)
TOP 20: (0-0)

#5 (tie)-(8.33)-DRACUT (2-1)
vs #11 Billerica (3-0), 7:00pm (Friday)

Last week's rank (2). Dracut (29.6 PF/G-17.3 PA/G) stumbled last week against Central Catholic losing a close (25-21) decision. It doesn't get any easier this week as the #11 Billerica Indians (24.3 PF/G-16.3 PA/G) come to town. Let see if the Middies can bounce back as the MVC schedule doesn't get any easier on the horizon.

Wins: Marshfield, Everett
Losses: Central Catholic
Combined record of opponents: (5-3)
TOP 20: (2-0)

#7-(10.00)-FRANKLIN (3-0) @ Canton (2-0), 7:00pm (Friday)

Last week's rank (12). The Panthers (31.3 PF/G-20.3 PA/G) rid themselves of a decade of demons in last week's (29-28) win over Mansfield. This week Franklin gets a chance to knock off another undefeated Hock team when it takes on Canton (28.5 PF/G-14.0 PA/G). This has the all the makings of a trap game as Foxboro is on deck.

Wins: Attleboro, Milford, Mansfield
Losses: none
Combined record of opponents: (6-3)
TOP 20: (1-0)

#8-(10.63)-BRIDGEWATER-RAYNHAM (3-0) vs New Bedford (1-1-1), 7:00pm (Friday)

Last week's rank (16). The Trojans (35.5 PF/G-11.0 PA/G) took care of business last week with a methodical win over Marshfield (28-7). Hopefully the maintenance department has checked the scoreboard lights because this week against New Bedford (28.3 PF/G-21.3 PA/G) will be a high scoring affair. Big OCL game on deck next week against Attleboro.

Wins: Duxbury, Durfee, Marshfield
Losses: none
Combined record of opponents: (2-7)
TOP 20: (2-0)

#9-(10.88)-CATHOLIC MEMORIAL (3-0)--Bye Week

TOP 20: (0-0)

#11-(11.58)-BILLERICA (3-0) @ #5 Dracut (2-1), 7:00pm (Friday)

Last week's rank (13). The Indians (24.3 PF/G-16.3 PA/G) have had a knack of winning the close ones as evidenced again by last week's (27-21) win over Methuen. This week they need to bring their "A" game against Dracut (29.6 PF/G-17.3 PA/G) if they expect to keep their undefeated season alive.

Wins: Burlington, Woburn, Methuen
Losses: none
Combined record of opponents: (4-4)
TOP 20: (0-0)

#12-(12.04)-EVERETT (2-1)--Bye Week

Last week's rank (8). Nice bounce back week for the Tide (15.0 PF/G-20.3 PA/G) with a (17-7) road win over St. John's Prep. It has been a while since they have averaged only fifteen points a game after 3 games. They get a week off to prepare for the BC High Eagles next week at home.

Wins: Leominster, St. John's Prep
Losses: Dracut
Combined record of opponents: (4-5)
TOP 20:
(0-1)

Last week's rank (14). The Red Rocketeers (26.0 PF/G-4.3 PA/G) got their Hockomock League schedule off to a rousing start with a (20-0) win over Stoughton. The stakes are raised this week as the take on white hot Foxboro (30.0 PF/G-7.6 PA/G). A lot is riding on this early season Hock tussle.

Combined record of opponents: (2-6)
TOP 20: (1-0)

#14-(12.83)-MANSFIELD (2-1)
@ Stoughton (0-3), 7:00pm (Friday)

Last week's rank (4). Mansfield (34.3 PF/G-12.0 PA/G) got shocked last week in Pantherland losing (29-28). Look for the Hornets to swarm a Stoughton (7.0 PF/G-24.6 PA/G) team that is looking for their first win. The next big game on the schedule is for the Hornets is October 30th against King Philip.

Wins: Dartmouth, Minnechaug
Losses: Franklin

TOP 20: (0-1)

vs Falmouth (3-0), *6:00pm* (time change)(Friday)

Last weeks' rank (15). The Eagles (17.3 PF/G-15.6 PA/G) slipped by a tough Acton-Boxboro team last week (7-6). This week they get to knock off another team from the ranks of the unbeaten when they host Falmouth (27.6 PF/G-11.0 PA/G). Take the home team in this one. The Eagles hit the road for the first time all year next week as they travel to Everett.

Wins: Waltham, Acton-Boxboro, Haverhill
Losses: none
Combined record of opponents: (1-7)
TOP 20: (0-0)

#18-(18.33)-CENTRAL CATHOLIC (2-1)
@ Tewksbury (1-2), **10:30am**(time change) (Saturday)

Last week's rank (NR). The Raiders (13.3 PF/G-16.3 PA/G) pulled off a shocker last week with a (25-21) win over Dracut. The competition this year in the MVC is brutal. TOP 20: (2-0)

#19-(19.08)-KING PHILIP (3-0)
