This is a combined TOP 20 poll using information gathered from the Boston Herald, Boston Globe, Maxpreps.com, hssinsight.com and highschoolsports.net for WEEK 3. The goal is to provide the ultimate combined Top 20 in EMass sports.


Here is the TOP 20, each team's opponent this week, whom they won and lost against year-to-date, opponents wins and losses, record versus teams that were in the Top 20 at the time they played them and next week's opponent.

NOTE: Only games played against EMass Top 20 teams are reflected in each team top 20 record. No WMass/CMass or out-of-state. Too hard to compare apples to apples. However, those team's records are reflected in opponents records.


#1-(2.00)-XAVERIAN (4-0) @ Hudson Catholic (NJ (1-2), 1:00pm (Saturday)

Last week's rank (1). Xaverian (31.0 PF/G-8.5 PA/G) goes on a road trip to take on Hudson Catholic (NJ) (8.6 PF/G-32.0 PA/G). This looks like a mismatch on paper as Hudson Catholic has already been shutout twice in its first 3 games. The Hawks will use this week to tune up for their trip to Everett next week.

Last week's rank (2). Reading (34.5 PF/G-4.5 PA/G) starts a 3 game home stand against Wakefield (17.8 PF/G-28.0 PA/G). The Rockets have been a model of consistency so far this year on both offense and defense. Their convincing win over Masco in WEEK 2 is still the benchmark for their season. This week it could be a long night for the Warriors.

#3-(5.80)-GLOUCESTER (4-0) vs Salem (1-3), 7:00pm (Friday)

Last week's rank (4). The Fisherman (35.8 PF/G-7.0 PA/G) took it to Beverly last week (41-0). This week they take on Salem (9.8 PF/G-19.5 PA/G) team that can only hope that Gloucester is looking past them to their game next week against Masconomet.

#4-(6.15)-BROCKTON (3-1) @ Fitchburg (3-1), 7:00pm (Friday)

Last week's rank (3). The Boxers (18.3 PF/G-12.8 PA/G) travel to the central part of the state to take on perennial power Fitchburg (16.0 PF/G-13.8 PA/G). Expect a defensive slugfest with the Boxers pulling it out in the 4th quarter. The carbon emissions don't get any lighter next week in their trip to New Hampshire to take on #10 Pinkerton Academy.

Last week's rank (11). The Indians (25.3 PF/G-17.5 PA/G) got a big win over then #5 Dracut last week (28-21). Another week, another close win. This week they take on MVC-Small Tewksbury (17.5 PF/G-23.8 PA/G). Warning to the Indians, beware of the little engine that could. Next week has another home tilt, this time against a scrappy Lawrence team.

Last week's rank (5). The Red and Blue (37.8 PF/G-5.3 PA/G) rolled over fellow Bay Stater Dedham last week. This week it's a trip to Braintree (14.3 PF/G-15.0 PA/G) to see if the Wamps can slow down the juggernaut. The combined record of Natick's opponents to date is a little suspect, but as the saying goes, you can only play the teams on your schedule.

Last week's rank (10). The Rebels (26.3 PF/G-6.8 PA/G) handled their first early season test by dispatching of Wellesley (38-7). This week they take on fellow Bay Stater Brookline (3.0 PF/G-32.0 PA/G) who doesn't look like they will pose much of a problem for the Rebels. The Norwood Mustangs come calling next week.

#8-(9.65)-BRIDGEWATER-RAYNHAM (4-0) vs Attleboro (3-1), 7:00pm (Friday)

Last week's rank (8). The Trojans (29.8 PF/G-8.3 PA/G) shut out New Bedford last week (14-0). This week the high octane Attleboro Bombardiers (39.5 PF/G-27.8 PA/G) come to town. To the victor goes early control of the OCL. This starts a stretch of 3 straight brutally tough games for BR. This week Attleboro (3-1), next week LaSalle Academy (RI) (4-0) and #1 in Rhode Island, followed by #1 Xaverian (4-0). Not many times a team goes back-to-back with the #1 team in two states.

Last week's rank (7). The Panthers (28.8 PF/G-18.8 PA/G) had their hands full last week with the Canton Bulldogs (21-14). It doesn't get any easier this week as the Foxboro Warriors (28.5 PF/G-11.3 PA/G) come to town. Should be battle of opposites as the Panthers go to the air and Foxboro pounds the ground game. If they get by Foxboro that have North Attleboro waiting in the wings.

Last week's rank (9). CM (28.6 PF/G-6.0 PA/G) had a week off to prepare for yearly powerhouse WMass's Longmeadow (29.3 PF/G-23.3 PA/G). The Knights best not look past the Lancers who are always tough, especially at home. A statement game for the western part of the state. Next up for the Knights is New Hampshire's #1 team, Bishop Guertin.

Last week's rank (14). Mansfield (34.3 PF/G-11.8 PA/G) took it to Stoughton last week (34-12). This week the return of Coach Mike Redding as they face the Sharon Eagles (24.0 PF/G-25.5 PA/G). I expect a big effort by the Hornets and a comfortable win. The Hornets have the softest part of their schedule over the next 3 weeks.

Last week's rank (12). A much needed week off for the Tide as they prepare for the Catholic Conference's BC High (18.0 PF/G-17.3 PA/G) followed by #1 Xaverian. It is seems hard to believe that after this game either both teams will already have two losses or the Eagles could have 3.

Last week's rank (18). The Raiders (19.0 PF/G-16.3 PA/G) took care of business last week with a (36-16) win over Tewksbury. This week the second of three straight road games against Haverhill (9.3 PF/G-29.8 PA/G). Expect this one to be decided early.

Expect a bounce back game by the Middies who have played one of the toughest schedules in the state to date. After this game 4 of Dracut's last 5 games are at home.

This week they host the Canton Bulldogs (23.3 PF/G-16.3 PA/G) who gave Franklin all they could handle last week. Expect the Warriors to give it their all in their first mini test of the season.

No breaks in the action as they travel to Franklin (28.8 PF/G-18.8 PA/G) to take on a Panther team that will be focused after last week's escape against Canton. Expect this one to go down to the wire.

Last week's rank (16). The Eagles (25.0 PF/G-5.0 PA/G) shut out Nauset last week (28-0). This week they are on the road taking on the GBL's Cambridge Falcons (9.5 PF/G-26.0 PA/G). Be wary of this one as the Eagles might have their eye on next week's huge ACL matchup with Marshfield.

This week its a trip over the ocean blue to take on the Vineyarders (19.5 PF/G-16.0 PA/G). The winner of this takes early control of the EAC title. I'll take Feehan based on their strength of schedule.

Shawsheen's Cory Foss (49-405, 4 TD's) has one of the biggest rushing days in MA history as the Rams outlasted North Shore (52-39).


Alex Phelan (2 TD passes) lead the #1 Xaverian Hawks to a (28-7) non-league win over Somerville.


Reading's Tino Perrina (3 TD's) found the end zone for the 15th time this season in the #2 Rockets (34-7) Middlesex League win over Melrose.


James McAvoy (GW FG) booted the #3 Brockton Boxers past St. John's Prep (17-14).


Natick's Antone Wilson (135 yds, TD) and Kevin Duffy (12 tackles, INT) powered the #5 Red and Blue past Dedham (41-7).


Nick Colson (3 TD's) passed the #7 Franklin Panthers past Canton (21-14) in HOCK action.


Walpole's Ryan Izzo (195 yds, 4 TD's) paced the #10 Rebels past Wellesley (38-7) in a Bay State League tilt.

A look at some offbeat statistics of the TOP 20 teams through WEEK 3 of the EMass football season. If you want to see each team's opponents and scores just go to Search Football Scores at EmassSports.com.


The #1 Xaverian Hawks have outscored their opponents a combined (42-0) in the 1st and 4th quarters.

#2 Reading Tino Perrina has scored 80% (12/15) of the Rockets TD's so far this year.

The #3 Brockton Boxers have not given up more than one TD in any quarter (1-1-1-1-1, includes OT) this year.

The #4 Gloucester Fisherman have outscored their opponents (70-7) and Conor Ressel has scored 6 of his 8 TD's in the 1st half.

The #5(tie) Natick Red and Blue have scored 12 of their 16 TD's from 10 yards or greater. Think about that.

The #5(tie) Dracut Middies trailed in every game so far this year but never by more than 7 points.

The #7 Franklin Panthers have scored in 11 out of 12 quarters so far with their biggest quarter being the 4th at plus 20 points.

The #8 Bridgewater-Raynham Trojans have had a remarkable 11 different players score TD's this year including the first six touchdowns of the year scored by six different players.

The #9 Catholic Memorial Knights have never trailed so far this year and have had 10 different players score their 13 TD's with none scoring more than 2 for the entire year.

#10 Walpole's Ryan Izzo has scored 8 of the Rebels 10 TD's. Before you let your mind think of a bunch of Don Nottingham 1 yard and a cloud of dust touchdowns, Izzo averages MORE THAN 12.0 yards per rushing TD.

The #11 Billerica Indians have actually been outscored in the 1st and 4th quarters (27-19) but have owned the middle of the game (54-22).

The #12 Everett Crimson Tide has been outscored after the 1st quarter (61-31) including (55-24) in the middle 2 quarters.

The #13 North Attleboro Red Rocketeers have lead in every game a minimum of (20-0) and outscored their opponents in the first 3 quarters (55-0).

The #14 Mansfield Hornets have scored 10 of their 15 TD's from 20 yards over greater.

The #15 BC High Eagles has been outscored (26-21) in the second half of all its games.

The #16 Plymouth North Eagles have scored 8 of their 11 TD's from ten yards out or greater.

The #17 Chelmsford Lions have only outscored their opponents (52-41) from the 2nd quarter on yet are still (3-0).

The #18 Central Catholic Raiders have trailed through 3 quarters in every game but are still (2-1).

The #19 King Philip Warriors have scored 17 TD's and have had only 76 official offensive plays from scrimmage or a TD for every 4.4 plays. Yikes.

The #20 Mascomet Chieftains have scored 8 TD's, 4 by Chris Splinter, 4 by Evan Bunker.

Reading's Tino Perrina continued his hot early season (4 TD's) in the #3 Rockets (34-7) win over Winchester.


Nick Colson (12-18, 120 yds, 18-96 rush, TD) paced #12 Franklin to a (29-28) win over previously unbeaten #4 Mansfield.


Billerica's Nick LaSpada (15-21, 230 yds, 3 TD's, 84-yard KR TD) again lead the #13 Indians to a narrow (27-21) win over Methuen.


Walpole Ryan Izzo (225 yds, 3 TD's) again paced the #11 Rebels in their (28-14) decision over Newton North.


Joe Wioncek (21-38, 281 yds, 3 TD's) lead the Beverly Panthers to a (24-20) nail biter over #18 Lynn English.


Mike Connolly (9-16, 196, TD, rush TD) paced the Bridgewater-Raynham to a convincing (28-7) win over #10 Marshfield.


Catholic Memorial's A. J. Doyle (1 TD passing, 1 rushing TD) lead the #9 Hawks to a victory over Hartford (VT).


Zack Latrell (3 TD's) lead the Central Catholic Raiders to a (25-21) upset of #2 Dracut.


Chelmsford's Joe Gennaro (23-216, 4 TD's) was all the offense the #17 Lions needed in their (25-13) win over Haverhill.


Allesandro D'Angelo (2 TD's) and Conor Ressel (2 TD's) were all the offense #7 Gloucester needed in their (35-7) win over Winthrop.


Wayland's Jeff Brewington (19-28, 204 yds 2 TD's, intercepted 3 passes) was the whole package as the Warriors upset #18 Westford Academy (36-28).


Scott McCummings (161 yds passing, 68 rushing, 2 TD'S) lead #6 Natick to a (42-0) shutout of Brookline.


Belmont's Marcus Pappas (3 TD's, 2 INT's, 1 fumble rec) took center stage in the Marauders (28-7) Middlesex League win over Melrose.


Attleboro's Matty Campbell (216 yds rush, 2-99 rec, 3 TD's) took center stage in the Bombardiers (50-42) victory over New Bedford.


Kristian LaPointe (128 yds, 5 TD's, 3 rush, 2 Rec) powered Abington to a (42-28) win over Rockland.


Cohasset's Dana Valentine (236 yds, TD) ran roughshod over Scituate in the Skippers (22-7) victory.

Weymouth's P.J. Bonarrigo (180 yds rush, 3 TD's) lead the Wildcats to a (42-14) thrashing of Norwood.


Jordan Guyton (10-234, 2 TD's) was all the offense that Canton needed in their (39-14) victory over Oliver Ames.
