MIAA accepts Mansfield offer to settle football issues

MIAA press release;

MIAA ACCEPTS MANSFIELD HIGH SCHOOL OFFER

TO SETTLE FOOTBALL ISSUE

Franklin, MA, May 7, 2009 - - The appeal by Mansfield High School before the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Council (MIAC) scheduled for today has been postponed after the two parties reached a tentative agreement.

The Mansfield School Department approached the MIAA with an offer of a four game disqualification of its football coach and to reimburse the Association $9,700 in legal fees.

Mansfield H.S. was appealing a decision by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association’s (MIAA) Board of Directors to suspend Football Coach Michael Redding for five games as a result of his failure to report in a timely manner the use of an ineligible player last season. The school was also appealing the MIAA decision to assess them legal fees incurred in the matter.

The Association has accepted this offer as being a reasonable way to conclude this unfortunate situation. Conditioned upon the parties finalization of a written agreement, the MIAA’s The Board of Directors will take final action on this offer at its June 4th meeting.
